Summer Reading Program 2003

This year's theme for the Texas Summer Reading Program is

Mission Possible: Spy A Book

About

WHAT IS THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM?
The Summer Reading Program is a service provided to the children to encourage them to read during the summer. It is a program that lasts for seven-weeks. We ask you to read six-weeks with a final party the 7th week. The Summer Reading Program is solely supported from donations.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM?
The Summer Reading Program is geared for Preschool to the eighth grade. You can join at anytime.

WHAT IS REQUIRED OF THE PATRON?
We ask you as a participant to read up to 480 minutes. That is 15 minutes a day for 32 days. You may read library books, personal books, magazines, newspapers, anything. Keep track of your minutes and add them to your reading log. All logs need to be turned in by Saturday July 19,2003 1:00 pm. We ask that you do not leave your children unattended, as we are limited with staff and volunteers.

IS THIS A CONTEST?
This is not a contest. There will not be awards given for the most minutes read. However, throughout the program on Wednesdays we do give out freebies. Free bees can be coupons for the book sale, book bags, pencils, or free admittance to the city swimming pool. In the past we have been able to give gift certificates to Wal-Mart for those who have completed the program. If funds are available we will continue this.

HOW CAN I GET A LIBRARY CARD?

If you would like to checkout books and materials you must have a valid library card. To make sure you have a valid library card please feel free to call or come by and ask. If you need to apply for a library card there may be a $10.00 fee if you live outside the Cleveland city limits. This fee may apply even if you have a Cleveland Address. This fee covers your entire household for one year of use. If you live inside the Cleveland city limits there is not a fee. The first time you apply for a library card you need to bring a picture I. D. and proof of address. There will be a desk at the entrance to answer all questions regarding a library card. They will also handle any membership renewals and initial applications for the library card.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?
The Summer Reading Program is funded partially by the City of Cleveland and on donations to the library. We can always use volunteers and we always need donations. Suggestions are in need as wd

CAN GROUPS JOIN THE
SUMMER READING
PROGRAM?

The Summer Reading Program can handle groups. Most are from local daycare's. We ask that you identify yourself as a group and we will provide you with a certain color log. This helps our volunteers keep track of the group as a whole. The Library would like to thank all of our contributors and volunteers that help make the summer reading program a success. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer please feel free to call us.

SPY GEAR
The Austin Memorial Library will provide you with a picture ID. This picture ID should be worn at all times during the program. On July 23 we ask that you come dressed as a secret agent.
