Trial rescheduled for Harrelson
At the request of her attorneys, the criminal trial of Liberty County Treasurer Janet Harrelson (who has been temporarily removed from office) has been moved from July 14 to September 22. 253rd District Judge Chap Cain has stepped aside; the trial will instead be heard by visiting District Judge David Walker. No date has been set for addressing the more recent charges accusing Harrelson of perjury, nor has any date been set for the civil trial that led to her removal from office.

City council to address hospital issues
A standing-room only crowd is expected to attend tonight's 7 p.m. council meeting to hear arguments for and against the council's intention to act upon "authorizing submission of Texas Capital Fund grant for infrastructure to the surgical hospital on South Travis." The grant, which must be filed by July 25, would provide matching funds to be used for water and sanitary sewer services to the new facility and surrounding areas. Cleveland Regional Medical Center is vigorously opposing the grant and the new hospital. Cleveland Imaging and Surgical Hospital LLC, dba Doctors Diagnostic Hospital, has stated its intention to construct the facility with or without the grant.
