City council approves stop signs at new locations
At Tuesday's city council meeting, members voted unanimously to approve a resolution that would place stop signs on Dalas Street at Travis and San Jacinto, and on Fort Worth Streeet at Travis and San Jacinto. In response to a citizen's request, Chief Ike Hines monitored those locations for several days and determined that morning and afternoon school trafic around Southside Elementary made those intersections dificult to cross safely during those time periods. Coldspring man saved by seatbelt
Dayton Police Oficer Kenny Broyles said 60-year-old Jasper Riley was southbound on Hwy. 146 when a cast he was wearing on his foot got caught in the accelerator pedal. The Coldspring man reportedly lost control of the pickup trick, which slid across the northbound lane into a ditch on the opposite side of the roadway, then flipped several times. Jasper Riley was wearing a seatbelt at the time and experts on the scene said that is why he escaped being injured in the rolover accident.

VFW hosting 50's dance Saturday
VFW Post 1839 invites members and guests to show up Saturday, July in costume, if possible - for a nostalgic evening of 50's music,dancing,and fun. The band "Southern Tradition" wil be on hand to pro- Mon.-Thurs. 9:00-4:00 vide live entertainment, and prizes wil be awarded for the best costumes. Plans are on hand to hold a "twist" contest, as wel as a hula- hoop contest, with prizes for the winners or survivors. Post Commander Alen Selph commented, tongue-in-cheek, that "ambu- lances and oxygen wil be available for those who might need them." Funeral Services Scheduled
Graveside services for Jerry Lynn Leonard are scheduled for Friday, July 11, at noon at Farley Chapel in Shepherd.

Services for Wiliam R. Doverspike are scheduled for Saturday, July 12, at the Assembly of God church in Shepherd (time pending). Visitation hours wil be Friday, July 11, from 4-9 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland. Interment wil be at Farley Chapel in Shepherd.

Funeral services for Arthur Wiliams wil be held Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at McDufie's Memorial Chapel, 1209 East Street in Cleveland, with interment at the City of Cleveland Cemetery. A Wake to honor Mr. Wiliams wil be held Friday, July 11, from 6-9 p.m. at the Chapel.

A memorial service in memory of Rev. Mack Davis wil be held at Macedonia Baptist Church in Livingston on Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. Rev. Davis, who was born in 1917 in Polk County, passed away May 12, 2003, in Clovis, Mexico.

Police Department Stats
Cleveland Police and Fire Departments logged the folowing cals for Wednesday, July 9: 11 ambulance cals and 2 vehicular accidents, 1 involving an injured party who was transported to Cleveland Regional. There were 26 general cals and 1 escort cal. Ten 911 cals were recorded and 1 offense for criminal mischief. Two arrests were made; one for theft by check, the other for a driver with expired regis tration, no driver's license and no insurance.

Texan Theatre Movie Listings
Starting tonight, Friday, July 11, the Texan wil be showing Charlie's Angels, rated PG-13. Show times Friday and Saturday are 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Admission is $4 per adult, $2 per child..
