City council approves
stop signs at new locations
At Tuesday's city council meeting, members voted unanimously
to approve a resolution that would place stop signs on Dalas Street
at Travis and San Jacinto, and on Fort Worth Streeet at Travis and
San Jacinto. In response to a citizen's request, Chief Ike Hines monitored
those locations for several days and determined that morning and afternoon
school trafic around Southside Elementary made those intersections
dificult to cross safely during those time periods. (See July 16 issue
of Cleveland Advocate for other actions taken by city council.)
Coldspring man saved
by seatbelt
Dayton Police Oficer Kenny Broyles said 60-year-old Jasper
Riley was southbound on Hwy. 146 when a cast he was wearing on his
foot got caught in the accelerator pedal. The Coldspring man reportedly
lost control of the pickup trick, which slid across the northbound
lane into a ditch on the opposite side of the roadway, then flipped
several times. Jasper Riley was wearing a seatbelt at the time and
experts on the scene said that is why he escaped being injured in
the rolover accident.
