Appraised property values rise 7.73% countywide
The Liberty County Central Appraisal District has turned over the new property values to al taxing entities within the county. Total appraised values countywide are assessed at more than two and three-quarter bilion dolars, an increase of 7.73% over last year's values. That figure does not include over $88 milion in value still subject to protest. The biggest percentage increase in values is in Dayton,where values jumped by a staggering 94.5% due to the city's annexation of the CMC Rail Yard, valued at a total of $160 milion. Kingwood College offering classes in Cleveland
Seven core requirement and developmental classes wil be ofered to students of al ages at Cleveland High School this fal by Kingwood Colege. Classes are open to residents of the Cleveland, Tarkington and Shepherd school districts. General Psychology, American Government, Intermediate Algebra, Composition and Rhetoric I and II, Developmental Reading II and Developmental Writing II wil be ofered on Wednesday and Friday evenings at the High School. Al Cleveland new students must successfuly complete the ASSET test, which wil be given at the high school on July 22, immediately folowing a new student orientation that begins at 5 p.m. Prospective students may register for the ASSET test by contacting the colege Counseling and (281) 592-6464 Advising Ofice at 281-312-1604.

Federal mortgage program to be explained Thursday
A town hal meeting, open to the public, is scheduled for next Thursday, July 17, at 6 p.m. in council chambers at City Hal to explain a governmental mortgage program for low-income citizens of Liberty County. The program, offered through the US Department of Agriculture,Rural Development division,ofers low-interest ,no down payment loans,to purchase existing homes,build new structures,or renovate current housing. Grants, requiring no repayment, are available to senior citizens for correcting safety and health hazards at their current dweling. Representatives from the USDA Rural Development department wil be on hand to explain the program, and to answer questions from the public.

VFW hosting 50's dance Saturday
VFW Post 1839 invites members and guests to show up Saturday, July 12 for a nostalgic evening of 50's music, dancing, and fun. The band "Southern Tradition" wil be on hand to provide live entertainment, and prizes wil be awarded for the best costumes. Plans are on hand to hold a "twist" contest,as wel as a hula-hoop contest,with prizes foror survivors. For details, cal 281-592-7230.

Funeral Services Scheduled
Services for Wiliam R. Doverspike are scheduled for Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. at Pace-Stancil/Probst Chapel in Cleveland. Interment wil be at Farley Chapel in Shepherd.

Funeral services for Arthur Wiliams wil be held Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at McDufie's Memorial Chapel, 1209 East Street in Cleveland, with interment at the City of Cleveland Cemetery.

Police Department Stats
Cleveland Police and Fire Departments logged the folowing calls for Thursday, July 10: 9 ambulance cals, 31 general cals, 1 alarm cal, and 13 (911) calls were recorded. Six ofenses were noted, including theft, criminal mischief, fraud, assault, and burglary of a motor vehicle. Two arrests were made for criminal trespass and assault.
