Shack suspect arrested on new charge
One of the three men arrested in June in connection with the robbery of The Shack and the assault on its owner, Ronnie Lewis, has been arrested again on a new charge stemming from that crime.
Donald Paul Guidry, 21, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail in Beaumont on a federal charge of felony possession of a firearm during a robbery. He was arrested Wednesday on an outstanding federal warrant after Dayton police spotted him driving through town.
If convicted of the federal charge, Guidry would face up to 10 years in prison and as much as a $250,000 fine.


Cemetery workday planned
Members and friends of the Wells Cemetery Association are invited to participate in a cemetery workday this Saturday, Aug. 9, starting at 8:30 a.m., at the Wells Cemetery. This will be the association's third annual workday. For more information, call 281-592-0220.


Successful homeschooler coming to town
Jill Pamplin, a homeschooling mom who successfully home-educated her two daughters and will see them both enrolled at Lubbock Christian University this fall, will address Eagles Homeschoolers United at their meeting this Saturday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church in Cleveland. The group invites all who are interested in homeschooling to attend the meeting and hear what Mrs. Pamplin has to say. Homeschool students will also be able to sign up for 2003-2004 co-op classes at the meeting. For more information, call Nancy at 281-399-9034.


Police report
The Cleveland police answered 28 calls Wednesday, Aug. 6, and arrested five different people on a variety of charges: public intoxication; parole violation; a theft warrant from Livingston police; possession of a controlled substance; and theft.
Cleveland firefighters responded to four alarms Wednesday: a structure fire, a washdown, a grass fire, and to assist the Tarkington fire department with a grass fire on FM 787.
Police dispatchers in Cleveland received 13 9-1-1 calls Wednesday, including one hang-up.
