Shack suspect held without bond
In a hearing on Monday, August 11, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Wendell
Radford, Donald Paul Guidry of Cleveland was ordered held in federal
custody without bond pending trial. Guidry is in custody on a federal
weapons charge stemming from his alleged role in the June robbery
of The Shack BBQ and assault on owner Ronnie Lewis. Based upon information
prosecutors presented to a federal grand jury on August 6, Guidry
was indicted for carrying a gun during the robbery. The grand jury
indicted Guidry for being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm.
Trial on the federal firearms charges has been set for October, 2003.
If convicted, Guidry faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in
prison and a fine of $10,000.
Cleveland PD busy with drug arrests
Many citizen complaints led to the arrest of 4 individuals for possession
of cocaine last Saturday, August 4. Luis Michaels Hernandez, Francisco
Barboco, Daniel Balsuda, and Martin David King were apprehended at
a residence in the 500 block of Easy Street that has been under police
surveillance. Police also found cocaine in a car. Police report that
many individuals were seen coming and going in and out of a mobile
home, involved in what appeared to be drug sales. Several other individuals
were detained and released; however, police state that more arrests
from this operation will follow. Detectives Kelley and Felts, and
Officers Edwards, Janovsky, Griego, and Kolek were all involved in
the arrests.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, August 12, eight peace officers
were involved in a search and arrest warrant in the 1700 block of
North Travis in Cleveland that resulted in the arrest of Reginald
Patton, Julien Dickerson, Malinda Bass, LeDerrick Humphrey, and Lamecia
Lillie. According to information received by the Cleveland Police
Department, large amounts of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, and marijuana
were being sold at this residence. Patton, Bass and Humphrey were
charged with possession of a controlled substance within a drug-free
zone. Dickerson was charged with delivery of a controlled substance
within a drug-free zone, while Lillie was detained for outstanding
Cleveland PD warrants. Detectives Kelley and Felts, Officers Hardy,
Robinson and Janovsky, and Deputy Constables Fuller and Bowen executed
the search and arrest warrant. Cleveland PD says that additional arrests
stemming from this operation are forthcoming.
Taste of Cleveland happens today
Today's lunch will be provided by area businesses at Austin Memorial
Library from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Local firms will have unique foods
that ticket-holders may sample, while also displaying information
about their products and services. Home-baked breads, muffins and
desserts, chicken, spaghetti, pizza, pasta, and yogurt smoothies are
only a few items on the unique menu. Tickets for the meal are $6 and
may be purchased at the door.
Gold City quartet returns to Cleveland
The premiere Southern Gospel quartet, Gold City, will be in concert
at First Baptist Church in Cleveland this Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $10. Reserved seating is still available at the church
at 400 West Hanson, 281-592-3422. Some tickets will be available at
the door.
Funerals Scheduled
Services for Nell Nixon will be held Thursday, August
14, at 3 p.m. at Pace-Stancil/Probst Chapel, with interment following
at Houston National Cemetery. Graveside services for Devon
Olivier will be conducted Thursday, August 14, at 3 p.m.
at the Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens.
