City wins grant appeal
City Councilman Willie Carter and J. Rice of Public Management, Inc. made a special trip to Austin this week - and came home with half-a-million dollars to be used to rehabilitate homes in Cleveland owned by elderly and low-income residents. The city had applied for the $500,000 grant some time ago, and had first received notice they would probably get about half the requested amount. Recently, the city was told they would receive nothing. Carter and Rice didn't buy it, and traveled to Austin to make their successful appeal. Cleveland city council will now develop guidelines by which to choose recipients of the grant monies.
