Special school board meeting tonight
The Cleveland Independent School District is holding a special Board of Trustees meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the District Administration building on East Dallas Street. The board will consider two issues: the selection of an architect and Construction Manager at risk for the new high school; and a nominee to the Liberty County Appraisal Review Board.


Friday night busts in Liberty County
Ten people were arrested Friday night for warrants and other charges in the Liberty area, as a result of a "saturation patrol initiative" by ten officers from the Sheriff's department and Liberty police. The targets were areas where numerous complaints of drug and alcohol violations had been recorded. Arrested were Vernon McNulty, 32, of Dayton, on a warrant for assault; Larry Mouton, 19, of Devers, for public intoxication; Frederick Bacon, 27, of Liberty for possession of controlled substance and evading arrest; Craig Arceneaux of Ames for an outstanding warrant on a weapons charge and possession of marijuana and cocaine; Christopher Ford, 26, of Liberty, for warrant on terroristic threat and public intoxication; Detroit Vallery, 30, of Ames and Tanya Daniels, 42, of Baytown, for public intoxication; Harold Glenn, 43, of Raywood, for evading detection; Daryl Stewart, 42, of Raywood for a revocation warrant for delivery of a controlled substance; and Alex Morris, 22, of Devers, for warrants for the delivery of a controlled substance. In a separate incident, Deputy Dishotel of the Liberty County Sheriff's Department arrested two men spotted riding on top of a train. Arrested in Dayton when the train stopped, they were charged with trespassing. They are believed to be illegal aliens and their identity has not been determined at this time.


College and Career Day at high school
Cleveland High School is hosting a College and Career Day on Tuesday, September 23, from 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. for juniors and seniors of Cleveland, Tarkington, and Heritage Christian schools. Over 40 colleges, universities, vocational institutions, and military representatives will be in attendance to answer questions and distribute information. Parents are welcome to come see what the future may hold for their children.


Funeral Services scheduled
- Denman R. "Buck" Watson; Saturday, September 27, 10 a.m., First Baptist Church in Cleveland, with interment following at Abbott Spring Meadows, Corrigan. Visitation will take place at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 4-9 p.m., and all day Friday, Sept. 26

Police Report
Cleveland police recorded 36 general calls on Sunday, Sept. 21. One arrest was made; Darin Eugene Moorman was arrested on a Harris County warrant for assault. Cleveland and Tarkington fire departments assisted the Montgomery County department at a structure fire on Northwood. A total of 7 arrests were made Friday and Saturday; five for public intoxication, one for assault/bodily injury, and one for failure to maintain single lane.
