Constable gets truck for environmental duties
Precinct #6 Constable Royce Wheeler will get a pick-up truck to use when he puts on his other hat as County Environmental Officer, thanks to the actions of Liberty County Commissioners in their regular meeting last week. "A car was just not adequate to get him into places he needs to go," said Pct. #3 Commissioner Melvin Hunt. Wheeler investigates county waste dumps, possible toxic waste areas, and housing violations throughout Liberty County - places that can often be muddy, rutted and difficult to maneuver in. "Wheeler keeps us in compliance with the TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality)," Hunt said. "He runs a very successful program, and deserves any help we can give him." The Commissioners approved the purchase of a used pickup truck for Wheeler, as well as $42,000 for a refurbished reclaimer roadwork machine for Pct. #4.

Chamber still looking for rentals
One of the services offered by Cleveland's Chamber of Commerce is the free listing of rental houses and apartments available in the area - and many more are needed. "One of the first places people moving to the area look for housing opportunities is at the Chamber office," says Joan Meadows, Chamber vice-president. Meadows says she has more prospective renters than she has places to give them. Anyone wishing to list their rental property with the Chamber of Commerce can contact Meadows at 281-592-8786.

Cleveland says goodbye to "a special angel"

Cleveland residents may have seen the many colored balloons dancing across the blue noon sky yesterday, but they might not have known what they were really watching. The hundreds of friends and family members who attended the funeral of 11-year-old Caitlin Elaine Hollie at the Christian Life Center in Cleveland were given a balloon to release in memory of the little girl who passed away suddenly last Friday. Remembered in her service as "a special angel" by family, friends, and classmates who spoke movingly of her enthusiasm, love for all, and determination, Caitlin was the daughter of Matt and Angela Hollie, and sister to Ashley Hollie. Angela Hollie is the manager of Texas Home Medical on San Jacinto.
