October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Valerie Gilford is a familiar face to anyone walking into Cleveland City Hall offices; she's the smiling lady behind the counter who answers questions and directs you to the right department or person. She's also successfully battling breast cancer - and will eagerly talk to anyone who wants more information on the detection and treatment of the disease. In fact, Valerie has a supply of information booklets and flyers available at her desk - not only on breast cancer, but also prostate and lung cancer, and the hazards of smoking. She also has a Breast Health Resource Directory, published by the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Valerie is also available to speak to clubs, churches, and women's groups about her experience with breast cancer, and the importance of early detection. If you need information from someone who's been there - Valerie's the one to talk to.
