Rotary winners announced
The names of three lucky winners of Cleveland Rotary Club's raffle were drawn at Wednesday's meeting - but the biggest winners were area students who will receive scholarships funded by the successful raffle.
Brian Bounds was the grand-prize winner when his name was drawn for a 2004 Yamaha 4x4 Big Bear 4-Wheeler. Bounds got his ticket from father Ray Bounds, who was recognized at the meeting for selling the most raffle tickets.
The winner of a $1,000 Wal-Mart gift card was a delighted Jean McAdams, who was present at the Rotary meeting.
Third prize - enough gift certificates from Oshman's to purchase a Remington 700 BDL .270 rifle with a 3x9 Leupold Scope - was awarded to David C. Martin.
The Rotary Club sold 600 tickets at $20 each for the raffle. Aided by generous contributions from Anderson Ford-Mercury, Berkley-Mann Eye Center, Prosperity Bank, First Bank & Trust, Thomas Davidson Realty and Cameron Realty, the sale of the raffle tickets netted $9,000 for the club's scholarship fund.
Last year the Rotary Club awarded a total of $12,500 in scholarships to Cleveland and Tarkington high school students.

ROTC students collecting Christmas toys
The Junior Air Force ROTC from Cleveland high school has begun its annual Christmas toy drive, collecting new toys and food for less-fortunate Cleveland area families. Last year the cadets gave away 31 brand-new bicycles in addition to dozens of other toys. The ROTC gets family names from students, area churches and other organizations, and obtains a "wish list" from each child. Sgt. Ron McIntire, ROTC instructor, says that every child gets at least one item from their specific wish list. The cadets also provide holiday foods at Christmas for those families.
Anyone wishing to help ROTC make Christmas merrier for some deserving Cleveland residents can contact Sgt. McIntire at the high school at 281-592-8752
