Council begins planning for new buildings
City Council's first meeting Tuesday with the architect who'll design the city's new buildings didn't go quite the way it was expected to go.
The face-to-face workshop was supposed to give Carl Joiner of Joiner Architects in Kingwood the marching orders he needs to begin formulating plans for the city's new civic center, city hall, fire station and renovated library.
Shortly after they began talking, though, the council and architect both realized there was still a lot of fact-finding left to do before they could start making reasonable decisions on what to put in the plans.
For example, the city's civic center committee wants more input from the public concerning the needs that building should meet.
And Joiner suggested he should examine the existing city hall and library and talk to the people who work there to see what they need from their buildings.
The meeting ended with the council agreeing to Joiner's suggestions and deferring the start of the decision-making process to allow more time for fact-finding.
" Hopefully, after the first of the year, we'll be close to having our plans in place so we can start out the new year making things happen," Joiner told the council.
