Assailant in Shack BBQ assault found guilty
Donald Paul Guidry was found guilty, by a jury, of possession of a firearm by a felon in a federal court in Beaumont on December 9. The charge stemmed from the robbery that occurred at The Shack in Cleveland last summer. Owner Ronnie Lewis was injured in the robbery, during which the assailants herded employees and patrons into a bathroom at gunpoint.
Guidry will be sentenced within 70 days and faces up to ten years in jail on this one charge.
Cleveland Police Det. Harry Kelley says, however, that this is only "the first step" regarding Guidry. Kelley said that Liberty County District Attorney Mike Little's office intends to pursue state charges against Guidry and others involved in The Shack robbery, and that Guidry could face up to 99 years in jail on such charges.

Fire destroys home in Plum Grove district
Cleveland and Splendora fire departments fought a blaze at a house in Maywood Acres off FM 1010 on Thursday, but were unable to save the structure. The house and its contents, both of which were uninsured, were declared to be a total loss. The homeowner, Danny Stephens, was advised by the compassionate firefighters to contact the Red Cross for assistance. The County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, but it is not believed to be suspicious in origin.

Houston entrepreneur may help fire victims
If the City of Cleveland and some Cleveland high school students get their Christmas wish, at least some of the Sleepy Hollow fire victims may get some new furniture in the near future. The infamous "Mattress Mac" of "Gallery-Furniture-saves-you-money" fame has been contacted by Mayor Monique McDuffie-Davis, who requested his assistance. And McDuffie-Davis's daughter, Gabriele, headed up a petition drive at CHS, collecting approximately 300 signatures that will be forwarded to Gallery Furniture.
Owner Mac McElvain, otherwise known as Mattress Mac, is known for his holiday generosity in similar situations. Mayor McDuffie-Davis said she has been advised by Mac's public relations director that the final decision will be made next week as to who will be this year's recipient of Gallery Furniture's holiday cheer. Davis said she was told that the business owner gets "hundreds of requests each year" for donated furniture.
