Auto accident takes Cleveland teen,s life Sunday
Bobby James Tew II, 18, was killed early Sunday morning in a one-vehicle accident on Fostoria Road just before 105W. Tew was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over after the driver, 19-year-old Matthew Cloud of Cleveland lost control of the 1997 Chevy truck on a curve. DPS reports that the truck struck the side of a ditch and rolled twice before coming to rest upside down.
According to an on-the-scene witness, Cloud, who was the only passenger wearing a seat belt, was left dangling upside down until he could be cut free. He was taken to Conroe Regional Medical Center, where he is being treated for injuries to a lung and one ankle.
Jason Sanders, 20, and Misty Hoagland, 16, both of Cleveland, reportedly suffered less serious injuries. Sanders is being treated for a dislocated shoulder, and Hoagland was treated and released with cuts and bruises.
The cause of the accident, which occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m. Sunday morning, is still under investigation.
Tew was pronounced dead at the accident scene by Montgomery County J.P. James Metts.

New state laws take effect January 1
Major changes in some Texas laws will take effect Thursday, January 1, 2004. They impact such diverse items as the cost of college tuition; the waiting period before abortions can be performed; and driving on river beds.
The state loosened its grip on the ability of universities to raise tuition rates, in an effort to allow the colleges to recoup some of the millions cut from state-funded higher education. It,s expected that tuition may rise as much as 12-15 percent on some campuses for the upcoming spring semester.
Under the guidelines of the ,Woman,s Right to Know Act,, women getting abortions are required to wait 24 hours before actually going through the procedure.
State-approved materials regarding fetal development and abortion risks are to be offered to women for study during the 24-hour waiting period.
And those driving SUVs or other vehicles through Texas river beds may find themselves paying fines of up to $500 for the now-illegal act.
