Lyle West residents get wet New Year's Eve
Some residents at Lyle West Apartments in Cleveland
got an unwelcome surprise New Year's Eve when water
burst from a plastic coupling and saturated four
apartments. In at least one unit, the bathroom
ceiling collapsed, filling the tub with insulation and
debris.
According to Cleveland Building Inspector John Davis
and Councilman Glen Dodson, who were at the site to
inspect the damage, carpets were soaked and some
structural damage occurred.
No one was injured in the incident, although the
clean-up and repair efforts may take some time.

Area food establishments brace for inspection
The Texas Department of Health is planning to be in
the Cleveland area at least once a week for the
forseeable future, inspecting 57 food establishments
for possible health violations.
The list of businesses to be inspected include not
only restaurants, but convenience stores and smaller
roadside "taco stands".
Inspector Fred Atwood has already found violations
at several Cleveland locations; however, it is
reported those establishments are working with the
Texas Department of Health to correct the problems.
Individuals wishing to report a possible health
concern in food establishments may contact Atwood at
713-767-3309.

Commissioners to consider new precinct lines
In a special meeting to be held on Tuesday, January
6, Liberty County Commissioners will consider the new
legislative district election precinct lines. If
approved, however, the change will not be substantial,
as only two precincts - 25 and 8 - are affected by the
new law. Less than 15 voters will have to be switched
from precinct 25 to precinct 8 to conform to the new
districts.
Other items to be considered include approval of the
final payment for courthouse renovations and
additional tree work at the courthouse and old jail.
