Full Agenda for city council tonight
City council will address several issues in tonight's meeting,
in addition to considering a motion to express disappointment with
Mayor Monique McDuffie-Davis recent appointments to the Cleveland
Housing Authority Board.
Public hearings will be held on grants for Samuel Wiley Park and a
Housing Infrastructure Grant for the Eastside area. Members will also
discuss utility deposits and an ordinance establishing sewer rates,
which have recently been simplified.
In executive session, council will consider applications for Municipal
Judge. Judge Wm. Taff, who held the position for over 20 years, retired
at the end of 2003. Justice of the Peace Fred Dishongh has been handling
municipal court on a temporary basis until Taff's replacement
is hired.
The closed executive session will also include a discussion of the
duties of the mayor .
CHA to present annual report to city council
City Council will receive the annual report of the Cleveland Housing
Authority at tonight's regular meeting; a report that reflects
the fact that CHA is no longer considered a "troubled agency".
The report shows the agency's computer system was upgraded to
eliminate transmission problems with the Department of Housing and
Urban Development (HUD); that 14 units were re-roofed; and that 36
refrigerators and 20 stoves were purchased to replace aging appliances.
Police report
Cleveland police made three arrests over the weekend, and recorded
several offenses of thefts and burglaries. Arrested Friday was Jacob
Mack Feiler, on a Harris County warrant for violation of probation.
Jimmie Doyle simmons Jr. was arrested Saturday for disorderly conduct,
and Steven Wayne Street was taken into custody on Sunday for assault.
Thefts were recorded on N. Blair, W. Southline, WalMart, and Sleepy
Hollow. Burglary of a habitation was noted on William Barnett Street,
and of a motor vehicle on S. Washington.
