New chopper in Cleveland skies
Some Clevelanders were startled Thursday night by a
big yellow chopper that circled the city and landed at
the Junior High School. Police dispatchers and the
Advocate office were inundated with calls from
residents wanting to know what was happening.
What was happening was a training session for
Cleveland firefighters and EMS personnel, working for
the first time with a new air ambulance service out of
Conroe. Sky Med, a division of PHI Air Medical
Services, is expanding their service area into Liberty
County and wanted to have a landing zone practice
session with Cleveland emergency personnel.
"It's supposed to be the fastest helicopter in the
country," said John Davis, public information officer
for Cleveland VFD. Davis said the training session
was an opportunity for both parties to coordinate
landing zone procedures and ground-to-air
communications
"
It went real well," Davis said, who stated that Sky
Med was "really pleased" with the result of the
practice.

In a closed executive session that same night,
council members will also consider applicants for the
Municipal Judge or alternate Municipal Judge position,
