CHA residents express support
In a letter to city officials dated January 14,
several residents of Boothe Square in Cleveland
expressed their support of Cleveland Housing Authority
Executive Director Barbara Burns and secretary Vicki
Rancher. Bearing the handwritten signatures of ten
residents, the letter stated in part that "we have had
so many problems in the past with others that held the
position that Barbara now holds that we feel blessed
having her there."
The letter states that "each time we have called
there with a problem she addressed each of these
problems as quickly as possible" and lists several
occasions -- such as a pool party, bingo party and
Christmas party -- that Burns coordinated for
residents.
The letter concludes that "both she (Burns) and
Vickie are working hard...to update paper work and
other things that had been let go for so many years."
At February's regular city council meeting, Mayor
Monique McDuffie-Davis defended her recent
appointments to the CHA Board of Directors by saying
that she had personally received complaints from CHA
residents about the lack of response by current board
and staff members to their problems. There was no
mention, however, of the number of CHA residents that
had complained to the Mayor.
