Questions on grant
answered Monday
City Manager Philip Cook will host a live call-in show
Monday evening to answer questions regarding a $500,000 home program
grant that will build new homes free of charge to city residents. Cook
will be joined by Jammy Malone of Public Management Inc. the administrator
of the grant. Following an application and review process, nine homeowners
in Cleveland will be chosen to have new homes built on the site of their
current residence. Applicants for the grant must own and live in their
homes, and the houses must be in such a state of disrepair that it would
not be economically feasible to repair them. The program will be aired
at 6 p.m. on the city's cable Channel 95. Viewers may call in at 281-592-4515
to have their questions answered by Cook and Malone.
Black History to be celebrated Tuesday
The Cleveland High School gym will be the site of a special educational and
motivational program presented by students Tuesday, February 17, celebrating
Black History Month. Themed "Wake Up, Everybody," the program will
be given at 9 a.m. and again at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
Special speaker will be Dr. Diane Green Reed, a professor at Sam Houston
University.
New radio station delayed
Cleveland's first inspirational radio station, expected to be on the air several
days ago, has suffered technical delays that has pushed back the first day
of programming. Owned and operated by Operation Refuge Inc., the low-power
FM station will be at 105.3 FM, with the call sign of KORG -- an acronym
for "Operation Refuge Gives." Frieda White, executive director
of ORI and KORG, said there have been problems with a bent section of the
tower; programming the actual frequency into the transmitter; and the exciter. "I
have no idea what that is," said White, "I just know it won't operate
without one." White says she expects all the technical problems to be
handled by Monday, and that KORG should begin broadcasting that day.
