Early voting is now
Early voting for the March 9 Democratic and Republican primaries began yesterday
and will continue through Friday, March 5. Early voting locations are the same
for both parties; and, for Cleveland residents, can be done at the County Clerk's
office in the Cleveland Annex, 304 Campbell, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. The annex
will also be open this Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. for early voting. Candidates
for local offices include those for Liberty County Sheriff, Pcts. 1 and 3 Commissioners,
and all six Constable positions. The state's District 18 representative seat,
now occupied by Dan Ellis, is being hotly contested, as is the newly-redrawn
2nd Congressional District seat for Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Lady Indians battle on The Cleveland Lady Indians continued their winning ways
last Friday night, taking the area championship over Manor in an 80-38 rout.
Thanks to an well-balanced offensive effort, in which five players scored double-digit
numbers, the junior varsity players moved up to varsity for the play-offs handled
the last two minutes of the third quarter and all of the fourth. The regional
quarterfinal game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight at Beaumont West Brook will
pit the Lady Indians against Orangefield.

There are no services pending.
Police Report
The weekend saw police make four arrests and record a variety of offenses,
including criminal mischief, assault, and several thefts. Clinton Maurice
Clowers was arrested Saturday on a variety of DPS warrants, and Sidney Lee
Vause III was taken into custody for assault. Bruce Allen Oliver was arrested
Sunday on a Montgomery county warrant for aggravated assault, and Mario Lopez
was arrested on a Liberty County warrant for hindrance of a secured creditor.
A high speed chase down Hwy. 321 ended Sunday afternoon with the help of
Cleveland officers who closed off downtown intersections while Liberty County
deputies pursued and captured their quarry. The 18-year-old white male from
Dayton, was charged with evading arrest and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Showing tonight through Thursday, at 7 p.m., is "50 First Dates",
rated PG-13. Tickets are $2 for children age 3-11, and $4 for moviegoers age
12 and older.
