Lady Indians out, boys still playing
Cleveland's Lady Indians basketball team reached the
end of the road last Friday night in the regional
semi-finals, going down in defeat to Lorena, 71-66.
However, the boys' team is still alive, facing Kountze
at 7:30 tonight at Humble High School in the regional
quarterfinals. The winner of that contest will face
either Mexia or Madisonville this Friday night at SHU
in Livingston. The Indians defeated Hempstead 64-56
last Friday to earn their berth in the quarterfinals
while Kountze whipped Sealy 108-66.
Several file for local positions
Facing a filing deadline of March 15, several
citizens have filed and more have picked up candidate
packets for the three positions on Cleveland's city
council and two on CISD's Board of Trustees that will
be decided May 15.
Positions 3, 4 and 5 on city council will be filled
in May. No one has yet filed for Pos. 3, now occupied
by Bill McAdams. Willie Carter, incumbent at Pos. 4,
has filed for re-election although no challengers have
yet stepped forward. Pos. 5, now held by Glen Dodson,
has drawn two candidates -- Frank Good and Lloyd
Meadows. Dodson is not eligible to run again, having
held the position for the maximum allowable time of
three two-year terms.
The school board seats of Ronnie Lewis, current
president, and Fred Terrell will be decided in the May
election. As of press time, Lewis is the only
candidate to file for either position.
Candidate packets for city council may be obtained
from Kelly McDonald, city secretary at city hall.
Trustee packets are available at Cleveland ISD
Administration offices.
